Jerusalem, MINA – In a significant escalation of administrative measures against Palestinian communities, Israeli occupation authorities have issued demolition orders for 23 residential and agricultural structures in the town of Abu Dis, located southeast of Occupied Jerusalem, PIC reports.
According to local sources, Israeli forces, accompanied by personnel from the so-called “Civil Administration,” conducted a raid on the town. During the incursion, they swept through various neighborhoods, delivering demolition notices for several inhabited homes and agricultural facilities. The orders were issued under the pretext of construction without the necessary permits.
This action is the latest manifestation of a systematic demolition policy that Israeli occupation authorities have intensified across the towns and neighborhoods of Occupied Jerusalem. The policy employs a highly restrictive permit regime as a mechanism to pressure Palestinian residents. While Palestinian applicants are rarely granted building permits, the expansion of illegal Israeli settlements around the city continues unabated.
Abu Dis, a Palestinian community lying adjacent to the municipal boundaries of Occupied Jerusalem, has endured years of ongoing restrictions. These include not only home demolitions but also stop-work orders, land confiscations, and the construction of settlement roads. Such measures severely exacerbate the hardships faced by residents and systematically undermine any prospects for the town’s urban and economic development.

Observers and human rights groups view these measures as part of a broader, systematic strategy. The goal, they argue, is to alter the demographic reality of Occupied Jerusalem and its periphery by diminishing the Palestinian presence and imposing new “facts on the ground.” This campaign against communities like Abu Dis is carried out within the larger context of relentless settlement expansion across the occupied West Bank, further threatening the viability of a future contiguous Palestinian state.[]
