ISLAMIC SUMMIT IN CAIRO TO ADDRESS ISRAEL SETTLEMENTS

        Bethlehem, 22 Rabiul Awwal 1434/ 3 February 2013 (MINA) – Senior officials from member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation convened in Cairo on Saturday to prepare the agenda for next week’s 12th Islamic Summit, official news agency Wafa reported.

        Israeli settlement activities in Palestine will form part of the summit’s agenda, Wafa quoted by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

       “We hope in this session to listen to suggestions from kings and presidents of member states about this thorny topic [settlement activities]. Other topics will be addressed on the second day of the summit,” Egyptian foreign ministry official Amr Ramadan said.

       Palestinian envoy to the UN, Riyad Mansour, told the meeting that the Palestinians have been a top priority for the OIC, especially after the UN’s acceptance of Palestine as a non-member state in November.

       The Islamic Summit, which will be held on Feb. 6-7 in Cairo, is titled “The Islamic world: new challenges and growing opportunities”. (T/P014/E1)
