Tehran, MINA – An adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned on Wednesday that US President Donald Trump’s declaration ending the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Tehran and Washington would further destabilize the region, according to Anadolu Agency.

Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior adviser to Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, said Trump’s announcement risked escalating tensions and undermining efforts to end the conflict between the two countries.

“Responsibility for the latest escalation, and for the verbal admission of canceling the memorandum of understanding by the thieving politician disgraced by the Epstein scandal, a memorandum that had already been repeatedly violated in practice once again pushes the region toward the flames,” Velayati said, according to Iran’s Mehr News Agency.

He added that Iran had repeatedly warned against actions that could further inflame regional tensions.

“Iran had previously warned that the region is not a venue for the political gambling of small states, and we have repeatedly demonstrated that acts of adventurism will receive an immediate response,” Velayati said.

His remarks came hours after Trump declared that the memorandum of understanding signed with Iran to end the conflict was “over,” signaling the collapse of the agreement.

On June 17, Iran and the United States reached the memorandum of understanding to halt their military confrontation following US and Israeli attacks on Tehran in February. The agreement was intended to pave the way for negotiations aimed at ending the conflict.[]
