Tehran, MINA – Iran warned on Sunday that vessels failing to comply with its transit rules in the Strait of Hormuz could face fines, detention, or seizure during subsequent crossings, Anadolu Agency reports.
The warning was issued by Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority in a statement on the US social media platform X. The authority urged companies transporting cargo to or from the Gulf to check an updated list of vessels accused of violations before chartering any ship.
It said vessels cooperating with ships already on the list would also be added from Sunday, including those involved in ship-to-ship cargo transfers, transshipment, and similar operations. Vessels seeking removal from the list must submit a formal request explaining the grounds for doing so, the authority added.
Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding in June through Pakistani and Qatari mediation, ending hostilities that began in February, and agreed to pursue negotiations toward a final agreement.
