Jakarta, MINA – The planned high-level meeting of the Developing Eight (D-8) member states in Jakarta has been postponed due to the escalating conflict in the Middle East involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, according to Mi’raj News Agency (MINA).
The postponement came after several participating countries, including Turkiye and Iran, considered the current unstable security situation in the region.
Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed that the decision to postpone was taken after consultations with D-8 member states and the organization’s secretariat.
The Indonesian government has sent official letters to foreign ministers of member countries notifying them that the meeting will be rescheduled until the situation is deemed more conducive.

The meeting, originally scheduled to take place on April 13–15, 2026, in Jakarta, was planned to be attended by leaders of D-8 member countries. However, increasing geopolitical tensions since late February have caused some delegations to reconsider their attendance, especially as armed conflict in the Middle East continues to escalate without signs of de-escalation.
The D-8 organization is an economic cooperation forum comprising eight Muslim-majority developing countries: Indonesia, Bangladesh, Egypt, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkiye.
The organization was established in 1997 with the aim of enhancing trade, investment, and economic development cooperation among its member states.
Indonesia currently holds the D-8 chairmanship for the 2026–2027 period, with the main agenda of strengthening solidarity and economic cooperation amid global changes.

The summit in Jakarta was intended to be a significant moment for member countries to discuss increasing intra-member trade and strategies to face global economic uncertainty.
Observers note that the widening Middle East conflict not only impacts regional security but also disrupts international diplomatic agendas and global economic cooperation.
This geopolitical instability has begun to affect various multilateral meetings, the mobility of state officials, and the stability of global energy markets.[]
