Tehran, MINA – Iran has said it is fully prepared for a military confrontation to defend its national interests, while maintaining that dialogue and regional stability remain its preferred approach amid escalating tensions and speculation over possible US military action.
Government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani said during a press conference on Tuesday that reports by foreign media suggesting an imminent US attack on Iran have heightened public anxiety, according to Sanad News Agency.
Mohajerani stated that Iran is accustomed to threats and has previously endured what she described as multifaceted wars. Despite this, she emphasized that Tehran continues to favor diplomacy and efforts aimed at preserving regional stability.
Commenting on recent protests, the spokeswoman said the government mourns all those killed during the unrest, noting that the death toll has exceeded 3,000. She described the number as significant and said security forces were targeted in violent attacks.

Mohajerani said the government believes the current situation can be overcome by improving communication with citizens and addressing legitimate public demands. She added that authorities have adopted a new approach toward demonstrations, including dialogue with leaders of peaceful protests and coordination with university officials.
She also said investigations into violent incidents related to the unrest are ongoing and that the results will be announced in the coming days.
On internet restrictions, Mohajerani explained that such measures fall under the authority of the Supreme National Security Council when direct security threats arise. She noted that President Masoud Pezeshkian supports expanding internet access but said the current situation necessitates temporary limitations. Some commercial sectors, she added, have been granted limited internet access.
Her remarks came amid reports of a US aircraft carrier and accompanying destroyers entering the Indian Ocean as part of broader military deployments in the region.[]
