Tehran, MINA – Iran’s Assembly of Experts has appointed Mojtaba Khamenei as the nation’s new supreme leader, succeeding his father Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a US-Israeli airstrike on Feb. 28, Press TV reported late Sunday.
The appointment of Mojtaba, a mid-ranking cleric with close ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), marks a significant transition in Iran’s leadership structure during a period of heightened regional tensions.
The Assembly of Experts, the body responsible for selecting and supervising Iran’s supreme leader, made the decision following the death of Ali Khamenei, who had held the position for decades.
Mojtaba Khamenei’s connections to the IRGC are expected to maintain continuity in Iran’s military and political posture as the country continues to face ongoing conflict with US and Israeli forces.[]
