INDONESIAN FERRY CAPSIZES OFF EAST JAVA

Gresik, 5 Safar 1437/17 November 2015 (MINA) – A passenger ferry carrying about 100 people capsized off Surabaya in Indonesia’s East Java province on Monday, officials said, according to dpa.

‘The ferry tried to return 500 metres after passing our port, but it capsized,’ said Reka Yusmara Mardiputra, a spokesman for Teluk Lamong port.

Other passengers were still being rescued, he said.

East Java police spokesman Senior Commissioner Argo Yuwono said the ship was carrying about 100 people.

‘So far there have not been any fatalities,’ he said. (T/R07/R01)
