IDB GRANTED GOVERMENT OF MALI $22 MILLION TO DEVELOP LIVESTOCK

Jeddah, 19 Dhulqa’dah 1436/3 September 2015 (MINA) –   The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) granted the goverment of Mali $22 million in order to develop livestock on Western Plains of Mali.

An agreement to this effect was signed here on Tuesday by Mali’s Minister of Economy and Finance, Mamadou Diarra, and IDB’s President Dr. Ahmad Ali, International Islamic News Agency (IINA) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

IDB noted in a statement that the agreement aims to contribute the economic development in Mali by increasing the production and productivity of livestock in Khai, Segou, and Koulikoro regions, as should be done by improving livestock nutrition, offspring and health care.

IDB continued, the project will also help improving food production and increasing farmers’ income as well as creating new job opportunities.

In addition to that, it will also help achieving a degree of self-sufficiency in food consumption and will also improve peoples’ daily lives.

Prior to signing the agreement, Diarra discussed with IDB president methods of strengthening the relationship between his country and the bank, praising at the same time IDB’s efforts for the projects and social development in Mali.

For his part, Dr. Ali praised Mali’s cooperation level with IDB, stressing that IDB will provide its full support to Mali’s economic development plans.

It is noteworthy that the total of IDB’s approved financing to the Republic of Mali has reached $672 million. (T/Imt/R03)
