HAMAS DENIES ADOPTING TWO-STATE SOLUTION

       Gaza, 20 Rabiul Awwal 1434/ 01 February 2013. (MINA) – The Islamic Resistance Movement has said that it did not authorise Jordan’s King Abdullah II to forward its agreement on the two-state solution to the US administration.

       A member of the Hamas political bureau, Izzat Al-Risheq, denied newspaper reports in the region that Khaled Meshaal had spoken about this issue with the Jordanian monarch, according to the Middle East Monitor  (MEMO) report received by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA), Friday.

      “There is no basis for such reports,” said Al-Risheq. “Discussions about this issue did not take place during the meeting between the Hamas delegation and King Abdullah.”

       He pointed out that the discussions looked at the Palestinian issue in general, the national reconciliation dossier, the rights of the Palestinians and Hamas’s vision for a Palestinian state based on national rights.

       Samih Maaytah, the Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications and Minister of Culture, told the London-based newspaper Al-Quds Al-Arabi that his country does not wish to interfere in internal Palestinian issues.

      “Based on its relationship with the Palestinian Authority and all of the Palestinian factions, Jordan works to support conditions which lead to the achievement of Palestinian rights,” he insisted.

       The most important condition, Maaytah added, is Palestinian reconciliation, the absence of which has had a negative effect on the Palestinian and Arabic position.

        King Abdullah and Khaled Meshaal met in Amman earlier this week. Senior officials from both sides attended the meeting in which the king said: “We are continuing to carry out our duties towards our Palestinian brothers in order to lessen their suffering. We are doing this to enable them get through their current difficulties.” (T/P-08/E1)
