Hajj : Governor of Makkah Region Hands over Kiswah to Senior Keeper of Ka’aba

Jeddah, 03 Dzulhijjah 1437/05 September 2016 )MINA) – On behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Governor of Makkah Region, attended here today at his office in Jeddah hand-over ceremony of the Kiswah (black cover) of the Ka’aba (the Grand Mosque) to the senior keeper (Sadin) of the Ka’aba.

During the ceremony, the Governor of Makkah Region stressed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is honored to serve the Two Holy Mosques and pilgrims, lauding the great services provided by the Kingdom in the service of the pilgrims and visitors of the Grand Mosque, SPA reported.

Prince Khalid Al-Faisal confirmed that, based on the Kingdom’s Islamic duty, the Kingdom continues to implement development projects in the two holy mosques in Makkah and Madinah.

The Kiswah will be kept by the management of Al-Haram Grand Mosque until 9th Dzulhijjah for the ritual of replacing the old Kiswah with the new one.

It takes nine months to complete a kiswah as it also showcase the fine art of embroidery of Quranic verses using the expertise of almost 100 embroiders.

For that, they use 120 kg of gold and silver to coat the special threads imported from Germany.

The ritual of replacing old kiswah will take place after dawn. (T/R07/R01)
