FREED PRISONER SPEAKS OF “OPPRESSION AND HUMILIATION” IN THE ZIONIST JAILS

Jenin, 26 Dhul Hijja 1434/31 October 2013 (MINA) – Freed Prisoner Osama Abu Hanana on Wednesday spoke of “oppression and humiliation” imposed on Palestinians in Israeli occupation jails.

Abu Hanana, one of 26 veteran prisoners released Tuesday in Jenin, told Ma’an, that throughout his time in prison, Israeli officials often raided cells with police dogs, transferred prisoners to faraway locations and sometimes prohibited family visits altogether.

He called on the all of Palestine’s political parties to unite and pressure Israel to free all Palestinian prisoners, Ma’an News Agency quoted by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

Abu Hanna served 21 years in prison after being sentenced to life in 1992.

He praised President Mahmoud Abbas for his role in freeing the prisoners, and thanked the thousands of Palestinians who marched to greet him.

The release of the 26 prisoners was part of a four-stage deal to coincide with the PLO’s return to peace negotiations in July.

There are still 5,007 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons, including 137 administrative detainees, 12 women and 180 children, according to prisoners support group Addameer.

Abbas said Wednesday that the PLO would never sign a peace deal with Israel unless it secured every Palestinian’s freedom. (T/P09/E1).
