HUMANITARIAN EURO MID OBSERVER REVEALS SINKING IMMIGRANTS CHRONOLOGY

Gaza, 27 Dzulqa’dah 1435/22 September 2014 (MINA) – Euro-Mid observer, a humanitarian institution based in Geneva, Switzerland revealed the sinking chronology  of the ship carrying the Palestinian Immigrant and declared a working group to follow its development.

“We have formed a working group. Representatives in Europe and Arabs continuesly following the recent developments.  The immigrants are from Palestine, Syria, Egypt, Sudan and other countries, but the majority of them arePalestinians,”Said Rami Abdu, chief of the Euro Mid Observer in Gaza, in a press conference in Gaza.

“The idea originated by a travel agent in Egypt. They communicated with the immigrants, they will arrive in Europe by a boat safe and comfortable, with the cost ranging from two till four thousand dollars, “said Abdu.

Abdu added “The ship consists of 400-450 people, with  250 people in the top floor and 150-200 people in downstairs.

“Firstly, they got into a small boat to get to the big ship, after all the immigrants gathered in the ship, the big ship went at 23:15 on Saturday, 6 September. Two hours after departure, the immigrants move to another vessel to travel illegally. Immigrants moved to the third ship after two and half days of departure to reach Italy, “he said.

Abdu continues “On the way, the water pump stopped caused thinning of drinking water supplies, as well the food. On Wednesday afternoon, the immigrants asked to move to another ship, but then they refused after the ship was small than the requested. Finally, they asked to continue the journey ”

“Less than an hour, there was a ship carrying about 10 people suddenly hit the immigrants ship that caused leakage. The water entered into the ship, and mixed with fuel, than the ship sinking,” said Abdu.

The ships drowned in Mediterranean Sea caused hundereds people died, mostly from the Gaza Strip. Some agencies immediately investigating it.(L/K01/K03/P008/R03)
