Brussels,MINA – The recent positive developments with regard to the situation on the Korean Peninsula “are very welcome,” KUNA reported, quoting EU High Representative Federica Mogherin in a statement Friday.

The EU is encouraged by the announcement of a Summit meeting between Republic of Korea’s President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in April and fully supports the efforts of the Republic of Korea in this regard, she said.

Mogherini said she is looking forward to a discussion with South Korean foreign minister Kang Kyung-wha at the EU Foreign Affairs Council on March 19.

Furthermore, US President Donald Trump’s readiness to accept Kim Jong Un’s invitation to a Summit meeting by May also represents a positive development.

“We are awaiting the outcomes of these summit meetings,” she said.

The EU continues to fully support the objective of the complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula, added the statement. (T/RS5/RS1)
