Arab Information Ministers Agree to Make Al-Quds as Permanent Capital of Arab Media

Cairo, 24 Safar 1438/24 November 2016 (MINA) – The Executive Bureau of the Arab information ministers council condemned a draft decision of the Israeli authorities banning microphone-use to call for prayers (Azan) in the holy city of Al-Quds, calling on all Arab media to launch a media condemnation campaign of the project throughout the regional and international arenas.

At the closing of its 6th meeting held at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo Wednesday the Council adopted, Al-Quds as the capital of the Arab media, confirming that the holy city of Al-Quds, is at the heart of the Arab and Muslim world.

In a joint statement announced during a press conference, the chairman of the current session Bahraini Information Minister Ali Al-Rumaihi said that the council approved a new plan for Arab media activity, abroad, which aims to address campaigns hostile to the Arabs and to correct nefarious stereotypes promoted by some foreign media circles, about Arabs as well as Muslims.

The meeting also demanded the Arab radio union to cooperate and coordinate with Arab news agencies and television channels to air coinciding live transmission of the events relating to Al-Quds.

Other speakers were Dr. Sultan Al-Jaber, Chairman of the National Council for Information of the United Arab Emirates, and Dr. Al-Arabi who was honored by the conference to mark the end of his tenure and secretary general of the Arab League.

Also honored were several journalists, media martyrs and media institutions in addition to the best photographer and columnist for 2016. (T/R07/R01)
