Cairo, 20 Rabiul Akhir 1438/19 January 2017 (MINA) –  Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi inaugurated on Wednesday the Museum of Islamic Art after the 3-year restoration work was completed.

During the inauguration activities, Al-Sisi inspected the inside of the museum with the head of the museum Ahmed El-Shobki, who gave the president a tour of the museum.

The inauguration, which was broadcasted on state-run television, was attended by the Minister of International Cooperation Sahar Nasr and the Minister of Antiquities Khalid Anany, WAM reported.

The museum suffered damages, following a terrorist attack at Cairo Security Directorate near the museum in January 2014.

The UAE was the largest donor for the museum restoration efforts, contributing 50 million Egyptian Pounds.

The museum displays hundreds of rare manuscripts and more than 100,000 artifacts representing different Islamic eras. (T/RS05/RS01)
