High Rises to Deface Jerusalem’s Ancient Appearance
Al-Quds, 18 Rabi’ul Awwal 1438/18 December 2016 (MINA) – Many new tall tower buildings are expected to rise in Occupied Jerusalem in the coming few years, dramatically transforming the city’s skyline, scenery and unique Arab architectural character.
According to Haaretz newspaper, the decision on this project was made at the end of July 2016 by officials from the district planning and construction committee and the Jerusalem municipality, who agreed on building skyscrapers and other huge structures in different parts of the holy city.
The officials also agreed on extending the existing light rail line and establishing more such lines in the city to connect the new buildings in the coming years, the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) reported.
The cornerstone of the City Entrance project, as they called it, was laid six weeks ago, and it consists of nine 36-floor skyscrapers and 14 24-floor high-rise buildings.
Another cluster of tower buildings is to be established in the city center, along the train line on Jaffa Street.
A group of high rises is planned to be carried out in the southwest of Jerusalem in neighborhoods called by Israelis Kiryat Hayovel and Kiryat Menachem, and they will replace old buildings of 5-7 floors, which will be demolished.(T/P008/R07)
