Jakarta, MINA – Former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has urged the Indonesian government to withdraw from the Board of Peace (BoP), an international forum established by US President Donald Trump, citing concerns over consistency with the nation’s foreign policy principles.
In a video statement circulated on social media Thursday, Baswedan argued that Indonesia’s participation in the forum compromises its long-standing commitment to a free and active foreign policy.
He emphasized that diplomatic engagement should not merely entail attendance at international gatherings but must align with the core values of justice and global peace that Indonesia traditionally champions.
The former governor pointed to what he described as a fundamental contradiction within the BoP initiative. He questioned the forum’s credibility in promoting peace given that the United States, under Trump’s leadership, is concurrently engaged in military aggression against Iran in coordination with Israel.

“This raises serious questions about the forum’s commitment to realizing genuine global peace,” Baswedan stated in his address.
His remarks reflect growing domestic debate over Indonesia’s involvement in the initiative, with various political figures and civil society organizations calling for a more assertive stance on Middle East conflicts, particularly regarding the Palestinian issue.
The Board of Peace was launched by President Trump in early 2026 as an international initiative claiming to accelerate ceasefire efforts and post-conflict reconstruction in Gaza.
Indonesia became a signatory to the forum’s founding charter during a meeting in Davos, Switzerland, a decision that has faced scrutiny from critics who warn it could influence the trajectory of Indonesian foreign policy.[]
