Kabul, MINA – The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said that at least 13 civilians were killed in recent airstrikes by Pakistan in eastern Afghanistan.
According to a report by Kabul Now, in a statement released on Monday, UNAMA said the strikes targeted areas in Behsud and Khogyani districts in Nangarhar Province, killing at least 13 civilians, including women and children, and injuring seven others.
A day earlier, former Pakistani ambassador Asif Durrani warned that broader military action could occur if the Taliban government mishandles the attack that took place early Sunday.
Durrani said the airstrikes targeting suspected hideouts of militants from Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and Islamic State were “a clear and deliberate message” to the Afghan Taliban authorities.

On the same day, hours after the strikes, Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, warned that the Pakistani attacks would not go unanswered.
He stated that Afghan forces would target those directly responsible, not civilians.
Mujahid claimed that certain military circles in Pakistan were behind the latest tensions.
He accused the group of acting under the direction of external supporters to carry out the attacks and undermine relations between the two countries.[]
