Israeli Forces Shoot Dead Palestinian Medical Volunteer
West Bank, MINA – Israeli forces shot dead a Palestinian medical volunteer during clashes in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday. This was said by the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
An ambulance service official said Sajid Muzher (17) was killed in the Dheisheh refugee camp near Bethlehem in the southern West Bank by Israeli forces in clashes with stone throwers. The victim was identified as a medical volunteer from the uniform he was wearing.
As quoted from International Sindonews, A spokesman for Palestinian Ministry of Health said the victims were shot by Israeli forces while working as medical volunteers. Two other victims were injured in the clash, which occurred amid increasing violence in West Bank.
In a statement, Palestinian Health Minister, Jawad Awad said the killings carried out by occupying forces against medical volunteers by shooting him in the stomach were war crimes.
Palestinian Medical Aid Institute confirmed that Muzher was working with them. In a statement, Palestinian Medical Aid Agency said the victim was shot while trying to treat one of the wounded in the clash.
Israeli forces often enter refugee camps to carry out arrests or other operations. This action often triggers clashes with residents.
The World Health Organization, WHO, in a statement strongly condemned the murder. WHO said the teenagers were killed while providing care to injured people.
“We are saddened by this tragic loss. Health workers provide critical care and save lives. Their protection must be ensured,” Gerald Rockenschaub, head of the WHO office for the West Bank and Gaza, was quoted as saying by Asharq Al-Awsat. (T/Sj/P2)
