Gaza, MINA – More than 91,000 Palestinian students began their 2026 high school examinations on Saturday across the occupied West Bank, Jerusalem, Gaza, and abroad, while 65 detained students were denied the right to participate from Israeli prisons, according to the Palestine Information Center.
A total of 91,138 students are sitting for the exams, including 51,499 in the West Bank, 37,698 in Gaza, and 1,941 Gaza students living in 46 countries.
The Palestinian Education Ministry said Gaza students are taking the exams entirely online for the third consecutive year through the Wise School platform because of the exceptional conditions in the enclave, while students in the West Bank are taking them in person.
Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa launched the examinations from girls’ schools in Al-Mughayyir and Abu Falah, saying the choice of the two villages sent a message of support to communities facing repeated settler attacks and Israeli restrictions.

Education Minister Amjad Barham said the unified examinations reflected the continued role of education as a symbol of Palestinian national unity despite a year of severe disruption.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) said 65 high school students held in Israeli prisons had been deprived of the opportunity to sit for the exams, along with hundreds of detained students from other educational levels.
The PPS said Israel has intensified arrests targeting students since the start of the genocide in Gaza and has stripped Palestinian prisoners, including children, of previously secured educational rights.
It said detained students face torture, abuse, and harsh prison conditions while being denied both family contact and access to education.

The group called on UN and international rights bodies to pressure Israeli occupation authorities to stop targeting Palestinian students, guarantee detained children’s right to education, and end systematic abuse in prisons.[]
