Baghdad, 26 Jumadil Akhir 1436/15 April 2015 (MINA) – At least 20 Iraqi people have reportedly lost their lives in a wave of bomb attacks in and around the capital, Baghdad.

According to Iraqi police sources, at least seven Iraqi individuals lost their lives in a car bomb attack in a commercial area in the town of Mahmoudiyah, about 30 kilometers (20 miles) south of Baghdad.

As many as thirteen people, who were in line to buy bread in the area, sustained injuries as well.

Another four civilians were killed and 10 others suffered injuries in a separate bomb attack in a parking lot outside Baghdad’s Yarmouk hospital, the police sources added, Press Tv quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

Elsewhere in an outdoor market in Baghdad’s northern Sabi al-Bor area, at least three people were killed and eight others were wounded in a similar bomb attack.

Two car bombs hit simultaneously al-Wihda area, in the southern outskirt of the capital, killing six civilians and wounding 13 others.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the bombings, but such attacks are usually blamed on Takfiri ISIL terrorists.

The UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) has said nearly 1,000 people were killed by violence in March, while over 2,170 others were injured.

According to the UN mission, the number of civilian fatalities stood at 729. Violence also claimed the lives of nearly 270 members of the Iraqi security forces last month.

A great portion of the fatalities was recorded in Baghdad, where more than 360 civilians were killed.

The northern parts of Iraq have been in chaos since the ISIL started its campaign of terror in early June 2014. The terrorists are in control of the second-largest city of Mosul and have swept through parts of the country’s Sunni Arab heartland.

Since then, Iraq’s army has been joined by Kurdish forces, and Shia and Sunni volunteers in operations to drive the ISIL terrorists out of the areas they have seized. (T/P002/P3)
