South Korean Vice Foreign Minister to Travel to Indonesia and East Timor for Talks

Seoul, 05 Jumadil Awwal 1438/02 February 2017 (MINA) – South Korea’s vice foreign minister will travel to Indonesia and East Timor next week to discuss bilateral cooperation, the foreign ministry here said Thursday.

Lim Sung-nam will meet with Indonesian Vice Foreign Minister Abdurrahman Mohammad Fachir in Jakarta on Monday for the countries’ first round of strategic dialogue, Yonhap quoted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as saying.

The consultative body was launched in May last year during Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s official visit to South Korea.

The vice ministers will focus on discussing ways to enhance bilateral ties on a range of issues, the ministry said, presumably including how to deal with North Korea’s evolving nuclear and missile threats.

On Tuesday, Lim will hold talks with his East Timor counterpart, Vice Foreign Minister Roberto Soares, the ministry said. It marks the first visit to the country by a high-level South Korean diplomat since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 2002.

“With this year marking the 15th anniversary of the South Korea-East Timor diplomatic relationship, the latest trip will greatly contribute to advancing bilateral ties,” a ministry official said. (T/RS05/RS01)
