TURKISH ACTIVISTS PROTEST AGAINST BANGLADESH ISLAMIC SCHOLAR EXECUTION

          Istanbul, 12 Safar 1435 / December 15, 2013 (MINA) – Thousands of Turkish took to the streets protesting against the death penalty of Islamic leader in Bangladesh Mullah Abdul Qader (65), who was accused of committing war crimes back in 1971.

         “There are thousands of activists took to the streets to protest against the death penalty of Mullah Abdul Qader,”  MINA’s Reporter Nur Ikhwan Abadi reported in Istanbul, Turkey, Friday (13/12).

          Demonstration pioneered by the Turkish humanitarian organization IHH started from Fatih Mosque, Istanbul proceeded to the streets of Istanbul.

          In addition, the demonstrators also performed  Ghaib prayer in the Mosque.   In a speech, one of the protesters said  his death would be considered as martyr. “Inshaa Allah,” he said.

          Mullah Abdul Qader is a prominent Muslim from Bangladesh who was sentenced to death for war crimes. Mullah was executed on Tuesday (10/12), on the Bangladeshi accusation that he was committing murder, rape, torture and arson during Bangladesh’s war to break away from Pakistan in 1971.

         Not only local NGOs,  international representatives  from the other countries also joined the demonstration such as from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Indonesia.(T/P03/E1)
