RAFAH CROSSING REOPENED TO CERTAIN CASES

Gaza City, 29 Dzulhijjah 1434/3 Nopember 2013 (MINA) – The Egyptian authorities openED the Rafah crossing on Saturday morning closed for a week without reasons explained, Border Crossings Administration in Gaza said.

An official of the administration told ALlRay that “the opening of the crossing will be exclusive to those with foreign passports, and the patients registered in Health Ministry’s records.”

“Students are to be allowed departure on Wednesday,” he added, AlRay reported as quoted by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA)

The Egyptian authorities briefed the Palestinian side are going to open the Rafah border crossing, the only getaway to the outside world, from Saturday to Thursday on partial basis as usual, namely, from 10:00 AM to 02:00 PM.

Egyptian authorities had closed the Rafah crossing with Gaza on Saturday, October 26th, after being open only for pilgrims and other special cases, without clarifying how long it would be closed.

After the July coup against President Mohamed Morsi, Egypt’s army has repeatedly shut down the Rafah crossing and destroyed hundreds of tunnels that Gazans rely on for years to import fuel, building materials and other certain assortment of items.

Among those items prohibited by the Israeli occupation is tea, A4 paper and chocolate, according to Gisha, an Israeli human-rights organization. (T/P015/P03)
