NABLUS, Occupied West Bank, 10 Ramadan 1435/8 July 2014 (MINA) – Atham, 13, could not hold back his tears after his father died on Sunday after being run over by a car driven by an extremist Jewish settler.

“They robbed me of my father,” the grieving Palestinian boy told Anadolu Agency from his home in the West Bank city of Qalqiliya.

His father, Zahi Sobhi Abu Hamed, and Anwar Satal, another Palestinian from Tulkarm, both died on Sunday after being run over by a car driven by a Jewish settler, Anadolu Agency quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

The two Palestinians had pulled over on a highway near Haifa to check an apparent malfunction in their own vehicle, according to an Israeli police statement, which added that the settler was being investigated.

Abu Hamed’s family insists that the Jewish settler intentionally ran the two men over.

“He [Abu Hamed] was a loving son who used to visit me every day to get my blessing,” his 60-year-old mother, Shufra, told AA.

She said he had gone to Haifa to earn some money for his family of five daughters and a son, buying secondhand goods and selling them in his hometown.

Shufra added that he had always wanted to see his son grow up and get married so as to give her grandchildren.

“But they didn’t let him see his boy’s wedding,” she said tearfully, accusing the Jewish settler of deliberately killing him.

The slain man’s mother went on to say that the world should see Jewish settlers for what they really were.

“The settlers always do this. They kill fathers, husbands and sons,” she said, visibly moved. “I ask Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to get our rights back from the Israelis.”

Abu Hamid’s younger sister, Nadira, said her slain brother had been kind to her and her children.

“He used to play music on his phone and perform the traditional Palestinian debke dance with his nephews,” she recalled sadly. (T/E01/IR)
