Turkey, Qatar Send Ramadan Food Packages to Colombia

Islam had an estimated 3 million adherents in Latin America and the Caribbean.

 

Bogota, Colombia, 13 Ramadan 1438/8 June 2017 (MINA) – Turkey and Qatar on Wednesday cooperated in distributing food aid in Colombia’s capital Bogota and the central-northern city of Medellin as part of Ramadan efforts, Anadolu Ageny reported.

According to Turkey’s Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) board member Mehmet Celik, IHH and Qatar’s Eid Charity Foundation will continue their support efforts in Latin America.

Food packages were distributed to over 250 families in need after iftar, the traditional Ramadan fast-breaking meal, at Istanbul Mosque in Bogota and the Islamic Cultural Center in Medellin.

Celik thanked the Eid Charity for their efforts and said they would also organize iftar meals in Ecuador and Peru as well as continuing their work in Colombian cities.

Islam had an estimated 3 million adherents in Latin America and the Caribbean as of the end of last year, marking an increase of nearly 25 percent from the 2.3 million who were residing there in 2010, the U.S. Department of State (DoS) data shows. (T/RS5/RS1)
