Taiwan Donates $500 thousand for Tsunami Victims

Jakarta, MINA – Taiwan handed over US $500 thousand  for the victims of Indonesia Sunda Strait tsunami in Banten and Lampung province through the Red Cross.

Symbolically, Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) Representative, John C. Chen handed the donation over the General Chairman of  Red Cross Ginandjar Kartasasmita in Jakarta, Tuesday.

He hopes this donation could rebuild the affected areas in Banten province and Lampung province, as well as help the victims to recover their houses.

“This assistance is a form of international humanitarian response for the victims of Sunda Strait Tsunami,” Chen said in a speech along with journalists from various media.

He expressed concern and condolences from the government and Taiwanese to the victims of the Sunda Strait Tsunami.

Chen also expressed his gratitude to the Government of Indonesia, Banten and Lampung Provincial Government, and the surroundings.

“In 2018, Indonesia experienced earthquake and tsunami disaster that caused deep losses both in terms of lives and material, and Taiwan also felt the same,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ginandjar appreciates and thanks for the assistance provided by the Taiwan government. Indonesia Red Cross will distribute the aid to several disaster-affected areas in Banten and Lampung.

Previously, Taiwan has donated US $250 thousand to the victims of the earthquake disaster in Lombok.

In addition, the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) in collaboration with the World Vision and Mercy Corps organization donated approximately US $700 thousand for the victims of tsunami and earthquake in Palu, Central Sulawesi. (T/Sj/P2)
