Israel Turns Prisoner to Administrative Detention

Ramallah,MINA — Israeli authorities turned Palestinian prisoner Ahmad Mahmoud Alawneh into administrative detention, without charge or trial, only hours before he was scheduled to be released from Israeli jails following a nine-month sentence, WAFA reported.

Alawneh, 23, was waiting for his imminent release from Jalbou prison on Sunday morning, but he was told he was placed under administrative detention, therefore he would not be released as scheduled.

Administrative detention is the imprisonment of Palestinians without charge or trial at orders from a military commander and on the basis of secret evidence.

The order normally goes for six-month periods, indefinitely renewable by Israeli military courts. (T/RS5/RS1)
