Moscow, 20 Rabi’ul Akhir 1436/10 February 2015 (MINA)– A Russian business lobbying group has urged Japanese companies to increase investment in Russia in the face of Western sanctions imposed on Moscow over the Ukrainian crisis.

The development comes as Russia is trying to meet Japan’s energy needs; Moscow is also trying to compensate for the investment opportunities that it has lost due to the sanctions, Press TV quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

“Now is the time for Japanese and Russian businesses to see a sunrise — rather than a sunset — of a day of victory for us,” Alexey Repik, the president of the Russian-Japanese Business Council, said on Tuesday.

“What we’ve been working together (on) in recent years… will bear fruit a few years later because both of us share a long-term viewpoint,” he added.

Repik said Japanese businessmen can use the opportunity created by the Western sanctions to increase their activities in Russia. (T/P010/R03)
