President Widodo Lands in Clark for 31st ASEAN Summit

Indonesian President Joko Widodo arrives at the Clark International Airport in Pampanga on Sunday for the 31st ASEAN Summit.

San Fernando, Pampanga, MINA – Indonesian President Joko Widodo arrived at the Clark International Airport in Pampanga on Sunday for the 31st Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Meetings, GMA News reported.

He arrived with his wife, Indonesian First Lady Iriana Widodo, at 11:57 a.m. They were welcomed by Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol, BCDA President and Chief Executive Officer Vivencio Dizon and other government officials.

Widodo won the presidency in 2014 serving as mayor of the city of Surakarta.

Widodo was in the Philippines last April for a state visit, where he talked to President Rodrigo Duterte about the security of common sea lanes, cross-border traffic and patrol, and economic cooperation.

He is the fourth ASEAN leader to arrive in the country joining Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and Lao People’s Democractic Republic (PDR) Prime Minister Thoungloun Sisoulith.

Duterte and Widodo led the launch of the first roll-on roll-off (RoRo) vessel that will travel between the cities of Davao and General Santos to Bitung, Indonesia. (T/RS5/RS1)
