President Jokowi to Open Sharia Economic Festival

Surabaya, East Java, 21 Muharram 143/22 October 2016 (MINA) – President Joko Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi, is scheduled to open the Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival (ISEF) in Surabaya, East Java, on October 27, Antara reported.

The president will also inspect a number of booths during the sharia exhibition being held at the Grand City Shopping Center from October 25 to 30, chief of the economic development division of Bank Indonesia (BI) office in East Java, Budi Widihartanto, said here on Friday.

“During the sharia festival, sharia compliant economic education curriculum will be launched, along with a sharia economic committee. Representatives of all institutes of higher learning in Indonesia will attend the launch,” he informed.

The festival will feature various aspects such as sharia compliant economic development in 5F, namely finance, food, fashion, “funtrepreneur” and “fundutainment.”

“Two side events will be held during the sharia economic festival,” he explained, adding, “The first will be a sharia forum that will include a seminar, a workshop and a high level panel discussion. It will be held from October 25 to 28.”

The second event will be a sharia bazaar that will be held from October 27 to 30. It will display products as a result of collaboration between Bank Indonesia and various parties to encourage a sharia compliant economy, he noted.

“The festival will be open to the public free of charge. The sharia festival will be the largest of its kind in Indonesia,” he pointed out. (T/R07/R01)
