Ramallah, 28 Sha’ban 1438/25 May 2017 (MINA) – US President Donald Trump spoke in general terms about the peace process during his visit to the region and did not say anything specific, WAFA quoted a senior Palestinian official as saying on Wednesday.

Speaking on Voice of Palestine radio, Ahmad Majdalani, member of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), said that the US administration has not developed a political vision on how to revive the deadlocked peace process between the Palestinians and Israelis in spite of its decision to send US envoy Jason Greenblatt back to the region next week to continue with the US mediation.

Majdalani stressed the importance of US President Donald Trump’s visit to Bethlehem, saying that the visit had great political symbolism because it confirmed that the main partner for peace is the Palestinian leadership and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

He said that Trump spoke in general terms during his visit about the role of the US in the peace process and did not go into specifics regarding the two-state solution, settlements and Jerusalem, explaining that what is required from the US administration is to give clear answers about the peace process after it has completed the exploration and listening stage.

The PLO official expressed disappointment at the failure of the US administration to pressure Israel to deal with the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails who have been on hunger strike for 38 days. (T/RS5/RS1
