Palestinians, Supporters Rally in Solidarity with Khan al-Ahmar

Jerusalem, MINA — Thousands of Palestinians and supporters rallied on Wednesday at the village of Khan al-Ahmar, east of Jerusalem, in solidarity with its residents and against Israeli plans to demolish the village and uproot its dwellers in order to replace them with a settlement and Jewish settlers, WAFA reported.

Participants raised the Palestinian flag and chanted slogans against the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and its plans to expel them from their homes in a manner reminiscent of the 1948 Nakba of the Palestinian people when they were forced out of their homes and land and became refugees.

Speaking at the rally, Fatah deputy chairman Mahmoud Aloul praised the steadfastness of the residents of Khan al-Ahmar and their perseverance in spite of all the Israeli measures to force them out of their land.

Walid Assaf, head of the Wall and Settlements Resistance Authority, said that the Palestinian people, who fought along the residents of Khan al-Ahmar to foil the Israeli schemes, will not let them down and that there will be other similar rallies until they bring down all such plans.

“The issue of Khan al-Ahmar is not an issue of several hundred people, rather it is an issue of the entire Palestinian people,” he said. “We will not allow another Nakba.”

Eid Abu Dahouk, head of Khan al-Ahmar village council, said efforts by Israel to get them to leave their land are years old and they came through military orders and economic strangulation, in addition to constant attacks by Jewish settlers.

He said the Israeli courts and judges who are actually settlers from that area are passing unjust laws against the communities of Khan al-Ahmar.

The Israeli High Court gave in May the green light to the Israeli army to demolish Khan al-Ahmar and to uproot its residents. However, following intense local and international pressure, the same court issued this month an injunction freezing any action against the village until August 1. (T/RS5/RS1)
