Over 212 Palestinian Prisoners Have Died Since 1967

Gaza, MINA – Over 212 Palestinian prisoners have died in Israeli jails since 1967 either as a result of torture or due to medical negligence in addition to other cases of murder by Israeli gunfire at the pretext of attempting to escape from Israeli jails or to attack soldiers.

According to a statistical study conducted by The Intifada website, the number of martyrs who died in Israeli jails reached 212 after the death of captive Raed al-Salhi few days ago due to medical negligence in Israeli hospitals, PIC reported.

The website stated that 71 detainees died of torture while 60 others died of medical negligence. Some 74 captives were murdered immediately after being arrested, while 7 prisoners died of their wounds after being shot by Israeli soldiers while in Israeli jails.

The number also included 119 martyrs from the West Bank, 63 from the Gaza Strip, 81 from Occupied Jerusalem, 3 from 1948 Occupied Palestine and 8 prisoners from Arab neighboring countries in addition to a detainee holding Greek passport.

The Israeli occupation authorities have been holding over 1,000 Palestinian sick captives in Israeli jails. They have been suffering from the Israeli policy of medical negligence as well as torture and ill-treatment.

Over 25 Palestinian detainees are suffering from cancer and 2 others from hepatitis. Furthermore, there are over 34 captives suffering from disability and psychological disorders while 17 others complain of heart diseases.(R/R04/RS5)
