Non-Aligned Movement Meeting At General Asembly Committed to Support Palestine

New York, (MINA) – Indonesia along with other Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) members reaffirmed its commitment for Palestinian cause during their ministerial meeting at 72nd UN General Asembly recently in New York.

In the meeting, Indonesian Foreign Ministry Retno Marsudi stated that Palestine issue is in the heart of Indonesia’s policy.

“Because once again, Palestine is in the heart of Indonesian politics, and every breath of Indonesian diplomacy there is always Palestine in it,” Retno told the reporters shortly after the meeting.

The meeting agreed number of issues that need to be encouraged to support the Palestinians. Among them is the importance to improve Palestine’s position in the international stage.

In that case, Retno called on NAM countries to immediately recognize Palestine and encourage its people to be recognized and support their members in the UN.

Second, the importance of diplomatic efforts at all levels to address concerns over Israeli illegal settlements and create a condusive condition for negotiations.

“We also ask non-aligned countries that have diplomatic ties with Israel to put pressure on them,” Retno said.

In addition, the need within international organizations to voice their strong resistance towards Israel and support the struggle of the Palestinian people, She added.

Beside Retno, India also reaffirmed its commitment to the Palestinian cause and said that New Delhi’s solidarity with the people of Palestine can never be undermined.

“I strongly believe that India’s expanding relations in the region with all nations will only strengthen the Palestinian cause,” External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said during the meeting.(L/RE1/P2)
