New Protest Against Gas Deal in Amman

Amman, 19 Safar 1438/19 November 2016 (MINA) – Jordanian activists have staged a demonstration in Amman after Friday prayer to express their resentment over their government’s decision to sign a multi-billion-dollar gas deal with Israel.

The protesters gathered in front of Grand al-Husseini Mosque in downtown Amman following the Friday prayer, and carried signs reading “The Enemy’s Gas is Occupation,” the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) reported.

Chanting “Raise your voice for dignity,” “No to the shameful deal,” and “No to Wadi Araba Agreement,” Jordanians of all backgrounds expressed their rage at the gas deal with Israel.

On September 26 this year, Jordan announced commitment to a gas deal worth $10 billion signed by the state-owned NEPCO company with Israeli suppliers.
