MER-C Send Volunteers for Post-Earthquake Improvement Program in Mentawai

Tangerang, MINA – The Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) has sent a team of volunteers to run a renovation program of public facilities damaged by an earthquake and tsunami that hit the Mentawai Islands district, West Sumatra province, some time ago.

On this humanitarian mission, MER-C sends eight volunteers from Al-Fatah Pesantren in various areas, six of them depart from Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Cengkareng, Tangerang-Banten, Tuesday (21/11)

They are Team Leader Ir. Sulisdiantoro bin Susilo from Bogor, Suyitno bin Martawiroji from Bogor, Khoirul Mustofa bin Supandi from Lampung, Abdul Rauf bin Suroto from Lampung, Joko Paryono bin Muntarman from Palembang, and Abdul Hadi bin Bujang from Pontianak.

“A total of eight volunteers have been dispatched. Six people left today. While two f them from Wonongiri will follow one or two weeks ahead,”Sulisdiantoro told MINA News Agency.

He explained that the volunteers will be tasked to repair public facilities, such as ablution place and toilets for mosques and schools in Sikakap District, South Pagai, Mentawai Islands.

“We will also work on the construction of public toilets in locations around the Mentawai Islands region. The humanitarian program will lasts about 30-50 days,” Sulisdiantoro said.

The Operational Manager of MER-C Rima Manzaranis said the volunteers’ dispatch is in order to channel the remaining funds for the community in post-earthquake and tsunami areas in Mentawai.

The current dispatch of volunteers is also a follow up of the survey results of three MER-C volunteers there on 5-10 September 2017, “he said. (T/R09/RS5)
