Macron Invites President Abbas to Meet in Paris

Ramallah, MINA — French President Emmanuel Macron invited President Mahmoud Abbas to meet with him in Paris in the near future, WAFA reported, citing Palestine’s ambassador to Moscow, Abdul-Hafiz Noufal, on Monday.

He told the official Voice of Palestine radio that since a meeting between the two leaders did not take place as scheduled in Moscow, where both were attending the final World Cup football match held on Sunday, because Macron had to return home with his team who won the match, the meeting was re-scheduled to be held in Paris in the near future.

Noufal said that a meeting between President Abbas and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, held earlier dealt with the latest political issues in Palestine and the region.

The meeting came two days before Putin is expected to hold a summit meeting in Helsinki with US President Donald Trump.

Abbas briefed Putin on the Palestinian perspective from rejecting the American step of moving the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and its so-called deal of the century, hoping that the Russian president can convey the Palestinian stand to his US counterpart. (T/RS5/RS1)
