Kashmir Solidarity Urges Immediate Halt of Programs Featuring Indian Films in Indonesia

Jakarta, 9 Jumadil Awwal 1438/6 February 2017 (MINA) – The Indonesian Muslim Solidarity Action Movement For Kashmir has called on the broadcast television networks MNCTV and ANTV to immediately end programs featuring Indian films.

The call was one of their demands in a protest to mark the Kashmir Solidarity Day in front of the Indian Embassy in Jakarta on Monday (6/2).

Participated in by hundreds of activists and Muslim students from universities in Jakarta, the action was held to  express their aspirations, but the embassy refused to meet and receive the delegation.

In their statement, the students condemned terrorism by the government of India that have killed hundreds of thousands of innocent Kashmiris and tortured and wounded about 10 million people by using dangerous weapons such as pellet guns during the decades of conflict.

“Stop the repeated infringement on Human Rights (HAM) in the occupied Kashmir, including imprisonment and torture of many innocent Muslims for no apparent reason,” they said in a statement.

In addition, they also demanded the Indian government to stop terrorism and violence and human rights violations as soon as possible to resolve the Kashmir issue through a plebiscite in accordance with UN resolution 1948.

Kashmir valley region has been contested by the governments of India and Pakistan for almost 70 years, but until today the settlement of the dispute have yet to find the end point ..

Kashmir dispute is a result of the partition of India and Pakistan. Since the British left India in 1947, the territory was split into two. Unilaterally India has occupied Kashmir Muslim majority by sending troops against Muslim militants in 1948.

Kashmir Solidarity Day was celebrated in Indonesia to help the struggle of Kashmir people for freedom or united with Pakistan by conveying a statement to officials at the Indian Embassy to stop the violence in Kashmir. (L/R04/RS05)
