Kang Appreciates Indonesia’s Willingness to Help Inter-Korean Dialogue

Seoul, MINA — Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha on Thursday expressed thanks to Indonesian President Joko Widodo for showing his willingness to help the inter-Korean dialogue for peace.

“I am grateful to the Indonesian President for showing his willingness to help the inter-Korean dialogue,” Yonhap quoted Kang as saying during a meeting with Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi at her office in central Seoul

“I think such a position became clearer when the Indonesian President invited the envoys of the two Koreas (to the presidential palace) together right after the Panmunjom Declaration.”

She was referring to the declaration from the April 27 inter-Korean summit under which the two sides agreed to halt all hostile acts against each other, enhance bilateral ties and pursue the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

The Indonesian diplomat arrived in Seoul on Thursday to formally invite President Moon Jae-in to the opening ceremony of the Asian Games in Jakarta next month.

During the talks, Kang also congratulated Indonesia on its fourth successful bid last month to be a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) beginning next year.

“We hope your country will support South Korea’s position regarding the key issue of denuclearizing North Korea in the UNSC,” she said.

Marsudi thanked Kang for the congratulation and said she will directly convey Widodo’s invitation to Moon. (T/RS5/SR1)
