JAMA’AH MUSLIMIN (HIZBULLAH) DECIDES JUNE 29 AS FIRST DAY OF RAMADAN

Jakarta, 30 Sha’ban 1435/28 June, 2014 (MINA) – Imaamul Muslimin Muhyiddin Hamidy decided the first day of Ramadan 1435 falls on Sunday, June 29 2014 based on the observation reports “rukyat” from various countries which did not see the new moon.

“The team has been monitoring rukyat in various countries. All of them reported that they did not see the new moon. So, according to the command of the Prophet in the hadith, Sha’ban is completed (30 days) and Ramadan falls on Sunday, ” said the chairman of Hisab and Ru’yat Council, Jama’ah Muslimin (Hezbollah), Nikun Priyono in Jakarta, early Saturday.

Ru’yat team of Jama’ah Muslimin (Hezbollah) scattered in various parts of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Saudi Arabia  even Gaza, Palestine.

The team also receives information from other countries. “If anyone who have seen the new moon, then we will follow them,” said the secretary of the council, Wahyu Iwa Sumantri.

Imaamul Muslim Muhyiddin Hamidy stated Muslims need a caliphate to unite the differences  when deciding the date of the first holy month.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian government through the Ministry of Religious Affairs also decided Ramadan 1435 AH 1 falls on a Sunday (29/6).

Thai Muslim community in the Islamic Majlis Jala Thailand said they did not look Hilal in whole of Thailand, then the country set the start of Ramadan on Sunday June 29.

The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) also said on Friday (27/6), the first day of fasting in Singapore will begin on Sunday June 29.

In a statement, Singapore scholar Dr Mohammed Bakaram said, “According to astronomical calculations, for determining the hilal of Ramadan tonight cannot meet the criteria agreed by MAMIMS member countries (Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore).” (L/ team/P03/E01)
