ISRAELI OCCUPATION REGIME DESTROYS MORE THAN 180 SCHOOLS

Gaza, 15 Shawwal  1435/11 August 2014 (MINA) – Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education of Palestine Dr. Ziad Thabit said more than 180 schools belonging to the government, the UN and the private sector were damaged by the Zionist Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip.

“There are schools that can not be used again at the beginning of the school year before it was renovated back later,” he said, Miraj Islamic News Agency (MINA)’s correspondent reported from Gaza City.

Therefore Dr. Thabit stated the Ministry of Education had discussed  further with UNRWA and other  educational institutions to start new school year.

He stressed the school year plan will stick on the schedule, regardless of the obstacles that exist such as the destruction of schools by Israeli occupation regime or the use of about 80 schools belonging to UNRWA to accommodate the refugees.

Thabit also stated the Israel occupation regime forces deliberately targeting educational facilities in Gaza Strip. “Statistics show that the majority of the martyrs and the wounded were children and school students. Approximately 10 other employees of the Ministry of Education were martyred and many injured,” he said.

Israeli occupation regime latest strikes is targeting school buildings, kindergartens, colleges, even eight universities among those damaged buildings including Islamic University in Gaza.

Islamic University of Gaza is the largest university in the Gaza Strip. Its rectorate building as high as 7 floors destroyed by Israel occupation regime strikes, so that it can no longer be used.(L/Syt/P03/E01)
