Al-Quds, 11 Rabi’ul Akhir 1436/1 February 2015 (MINA) – The Hebrew weekly newspaper Kol Ha’ir disclosed on Friday that the Israeli municipality in Jerusalem has prepared a renovation project for one of the eight gates of the Old City. Palestinians believe it is for Judaization purposes.

The Hebrew newspaper said the municipality will renovate the section called “The New Gate” with a budget of ten millions of Israeli New Shekels. The project will be finished by 2016, The Palestinian Information Center (PIC) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

Kol Ha’ir stated that working on the project will begin in the next few weeks. The project aims to renovate and reconstruct the old structures of the city at a large scale, turning the place into a commercial and tourist attraction.

However, Palestinians perceive this project as a step within a series of procedures aiming at Judaizing Jerusalem and wiping out its Arab and Islamic landmarks.
