— Israeli forces launched another wave of heavy air and artillery strikes across the Gaza Strip on Sunday night, with eastern Rafah among the areas hit hardest. The Israeli military claimed the operation targeted remaining tunnel networks and Palestinian fighters allegedly sheltering inside them.

The renewed escalation drew widespread criticism, particularly because the strikes occurred near densely populated civilian areas where displaced families have been seeking refuge for months.

Residents in Rafah reported powerful explosions shaking entire neighborhoods, forcing families to flee once again in the middle of the night with nowhere safe to go.

Israel’s government said the operation aimed to “eliminate armed militants.” However, analysts and humanitarian organizations see the attack as part of a continuing pattern of systematic violence that many in the international community increasingly describe as genocidal in nature.

Survivors described a terrifying scene of low-flying warplanes and artillery fire hitting areas known to shelter women and children who already lack access to health services, clean water, and basic necessities.

The latest assault adds to the long list of alleged violations committed by Israeli forces. Amid deepening suffering, Palestinians continue to assert their rights and call on the global community to intervene and stop the ongoing offensive, which has killed tens of thousands since the war began.

Humanitarian groups operating in Gaza have reiterated urgent calls for unrestricted aid access. They warn that continued military operations in Rafah could trigger an even greater humanitarian catastrophe if the international community fails to act.[]
