INDONESIAN PARLIAMENT RATIFIES BILL OF HALAL PRODUCT WARRANTY

Jakarta, 3 Dzulhijjah 1435/27 September 2014 (MINA) – Indonesian Parliament (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat-DPR) finally ratified the bill of halal product warranty (Jaminan Produk Halal – JPH) in the plenary session on Thursday (25 september).

Priyo Budi Santoso led the plenary session. JPH bill was to provide legal protection, guarantee and safety related to foods and beverages.

Meanwhile, Justice Minister, Amir Syamsuddin said, president agreed to the ratification of the bill.

Chairman of the Working Committee (Panja) JPH Bill also Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Parliament of  Commission VIII Ledia Amaliah Hanifa in a previous discussion, described the process and the substance of the bill.

Ledia Hanifa Amaliah explained, the bill consists of 11 chapters and 68 articles. The JPH formed eight government regulations and two Ministerial Regulations.

Islamic principles

Ledia explained, JPH bill are steps to implement of Islamic (sharia) principles into positive law. State has to play role providing services, protection, and security to the Indonesian people.

“In the meeting, all factions in the Indonesian Parliament approved the bill of Halal Product warranty. The bill was submitted in the second-level talks at the Plenary Session of the Parliament for enactment into law,” said Ledia.

“We asked government to provide socialization and education actively on businessmen, so they have desire to certify their products”, Ledia told Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA).

Meanwhile Secretary General of Religious Ministry, Nur Syam explained the Indonesian Parliament and the government committed in socializing and preparing government regulations, infrastructure and facilities gradually over five years.
