INDONESIAN GOVERNMENT FACILITATES HUMANITARIAN AID TO GAZA

Jakarta, 12 Shawwal 1435/8 August 2014 (MINA) – Director of Middle East, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Febrian A. Ruddyard, said that Indonesian government undertakes to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid from Indonesia to Gaza Strip.

Febrian disclosed this in a dialogue with Indonesian humanitarian agencies about distribution of Indonesian Humanitarian Aid to Gaza Strip, in Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta, Thursday.

According to him, If distribution of humanitarian aid to Gaza uses Rafah border crossing, Indonesian humanitarian agencies need   to coordinate with Embassy of Republic of Indonesia in Cairo, Egyptian Government through Foreign Ministry and Egyptian Red Crescent.

“We will facilitate it by introduction and coordination with Embassy in Cairo, we will soon prepare the official introduction,” he said in front of delegates from Indonesia humanitarian agencies, such as Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C), Bulan Sabit Merah Indonesia (BSMI), Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT), Dompet Dhuafa, reporters of Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA)and others.

Febrian said, procedure of the distribution need to request approval from Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta.

The request should include explanation about the type and amount of humanitarian goods, delivery destination via Egypt and attaching data of officials who accompany the humanitarian aid.

“After receiving necessary approvals, humanitarian agencies should coordinate with Egyptian Red Crescent to transport goods from the Cairo airport to the the Rafah crossing,” he added.

He added that Egyptian authorities usually give permission for a limited number of people who accompany the humanitarian aids, including journalists and media personnel.

Before sending humanitarian aid, the agencies need to send all details to Egyptian Foreign Ministry, including copy of each passport, name, nationality, and approvals from each of their Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Embassy in Egypt.

Technical aid

Egyptian government asks the goods have to be in ballet form with length of 120 cm, wide 120 cm and high 130 cm. It does not exceed that size for each single ballet, Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA)’s reported.

Weight of each ballet has not to exceed 750 kg. Each ballet should be wrapped with plastic wrap four layers then with three iron lace and metal straps on each side.

They had to provide All documents needed, from certificates of origin, validity of the certificate with date of production and expiry, invoice of the goods and letter to Egyptian Red Crescent. Then the letter conveyed to Palestinians.

The Egyptian government does not receive humanitarian aid that includes cars except ambulances, building materials, pre-built establishment, gas and oxygen cylinders, cash, fuel etc.

For the delivery of medical assistance, the accompanying teams have to submit their requests through their Ministry of Foreign Affairs respectively. Then they should coordinate with Ministry of Health of Palestine Authority in Ramallah. The coordination was to determine the type of medical assistance required.

Each humanitarian aid that did not implement the mentioned mechanism would not be accepted. (L/P02/Syt/E01)
