INDONESIA TO SET RELIGIONS PROTECTION LAW

Jakarta, 19 Muharram 1436/12 November 2014 (MINA) – The chairman of Center for Religious Harmony, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Mubarok said, the government is currently drafting a law (RUU) to replace Law No. 1 PNPS / 1969 which is considered not up to date. The RUU will be named Religions Protection Law.

According to Mubarok, the Religions Protection Law will rearrange protection for all religions and beliefs in Indonesia, Indonesian daily newspaper Republika, quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting, Wednesday.

“Everything will be ruled, not just the six religions, but also includes other beliefs,” said Mubarok.

The settlement of Religions Protection Law is targeted completion within six months.
“In Early 2015 it can be socialized to society and organizations, so that all can be consulted,” he said.

He explained, the idea of Religions Protection Law comming from the government. So, it different from Religious Harmony Law by the parliament.

He also added, the Religions Protection Law does not regulate the internal problems of religion, but the issues involved in inter -religion in public space.(T/P008/R03)
