India Pledges Support to Palestinian Cause, Promises Help in evelopment

 

 

New Delhi, 20 Sha’ban 1438/17 May 2017 (MINA)– India on Tuesday renewed its support to Palestinian cause and expressed its hope to see the realization of a sovereign, independent, united and viable Palestine,KUNA reported.

A press statement, issued after an official meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas, who arrived here Sunday on a four-day official visit, underlined India’s unwavering support to the Palestinian cause.

Modi said in the statement: “The relationship between India and Palestine is built on the foundation of long-standing solidarity and friendship since the days of our own freedom struggle. India has been unwavering in its support of the Palestinian cause. We hope to see the realization of a sovereign, independent, united and viable Palestine, co-existing peacefully with Israel.”

Both sides exchanged views on the Middle East Peace Process and the emerging situation in the region and agreed that the challenges “must be addressed through sustained political dialogue and peaceful means.”

India also expressed hope “for early resumption of talks between Palestinian and Israeli sides to move towards finding a comprehensive resolution.”

Modi also underlined his country’s commitment to be a partner in achieving development of Palestine, build its economy and contribute to improving the lives of its people through practical cooperation. India will continue its efforts in supporting capacity-building efforts of Palestine.

On the sidelines of the meeting, five MoUs were inked to deepen cooperation in various fields including Information-Technology and electronics, youth affairs and sports, agricultural and health sectors.

He also called on Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Muhammad Hamid Ansari and Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj.

Abbas also visited Centre for Development of Advance Computing in Noida city located near New Delhi. (T/RS5/RS1)
