Gaza, MINA – Schools and education directorates staged a strike in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday in protest at the Palestinian Authority (PA) government’s delay in paying the salaries of Gaza employees.

Doors of schools and offices of the Education Ministry were locked and students did not attend their classes, PIC reported.

Wednesday’s strike was called by the teachers union to protest the PA government’s refusal to pay monthly salaries for the employees hired by Hamas since 2007.

Hamas has appointed around 40,000 employees after taking control of the Gaza Strip in July 2007 following the PA government’s orders to its employees in Gaza not to go to their workplaces.
